Water softeners are a form of water treatment. The water softener operates by extracting ‘hard water’ elements from the water supply through an ion exchange process. Hard water initially enters your home from the mains pipe and proceeds to the water softener. Inside the tank, resin beads attract and retain hard water minerals, effectively removing them from the water. Once the resin beads have absorbed a significant amount of minerals and reached their capacity, the water softener initiates a cleaning cycle automatically. During this cycle, a brine solution is used to flush the resin, purging it of accumulated minerals. Softened water leaves the unit and runs through the plumbing system.
